Wikipedia: The game Battleship (also known as Battleships) is a guessing game played by two people. It is known throughout the world as a pencil and paper game and predates World War I in this form. It was invented by Clifford Von Wickler in the early 1900s, but he never patented the game and it was soon published by Milton Bradley Company in 1943 as the pad-and-pencil game "Broadsides, the Game of Naval Strategy".

Structure of a match

When a user decides to attack to other user, a match starts. A match is organized in three sets, like tennis.

The main goal is sunking all oponent's ships before your oponent destroys yours.

Board

The board is 10 x 10 squares sized. X-axis and Y-axis values are numbered between 0 and 9.

Ships

There is a total of 11 ships. You will have to place them on the board following the "Deployment Rules".

Deployment

If you want to be the last one, just don't follow the next rules.

Rule #1: Ships can be placed vertically or horizontally. Other orientation is invalid.

Rule #2: Two ships cannot touch each other by any vertex. So, around a ship, just water or the limits of the board.

Scoring

You will receive points for winning each set and some extra points for winning the match.

  • Set won: +25 points
  • Match won: +50 points

Some examples:

  • You loose the match winning no set: +0 points
  • You loose the match but win a set: +25 points
  • You win the match winning two sets: +100 (25 + 25 + 50) points
  • You win the match winning all three sets: +125 (25 + 25 + 25 + 50) points
